Paul S. Roberts was born in Kansas City, Kansas in 1932, and raised in Denver, Colorado.

Paul began his career in the aircraft industry in 1956 at Lockheed Aircraft Co., in Burbank, CA. He later held positions at Northrop and Douglas Aircraft companies. At Hughes Aircraft Co., in CA, as senior scientist of the Measurement Standards Group in the Primary Standards Lab, Paul worked on various advanced projects, including the first unmanned lunar landings.

He also worked on standards that elevated communication with satellites and deep space probes. His education included Regis H.S. and Regis College, graduating from U. of Colorado, Boulder in 1956 with a degree in Electrical Engineering.

Paul retired from Hughes in 1992.
