    Paul Sylvester Shanley began his long association with space and aeronautics as an instructor and counselor at the SpaceAcademy and SpaceCamp, U.S. Space and Rocket Center in Huntsville, AL in 19 85. Logging over 13 0 0 hours of instruction and training, Paul interacted with Space Campers ranging in age from 10 to 80. He taught a variety of subjects including aerospace/space history, and earth/space/aerospace sciences and applications.
    In 1990, Paul had the distinct pleasure of acting as the University of Alabama's escort for a Soviet academic delegation from Moscow Aviation Institute. In 1991and 1993, he provided logistics assistance during the International Space Summit and at the Skylab, Spacelab, and Space Station Symposium respectively. In 1992, Paul worked as curator's assistant at the Alabama Space and Rocket Center, photo documenting the disposition of $2,500,000 worth of space artifacts. Also, in 1992, Paul developed and deployed a space flight experiment on STS-46. Samples of experimental materials were exposed to a low earth orbit space environment and then evaluated for future use in space environment, equipment and gear.
    Paul has continued his work in developing materials, clothing, and equipment to help protect astronauts and pilots under extremely hazardous environmental conditions. Today, Paul continues to speak and work enthusiastically on behalf of aviation and space exploration. He regularly volunteers to speak to any organization or school regarding the U.S. Space program and related topics.
