Lt. Paul Woodrow Lindskog served as a carrier-based fighter pilot (in Air Group 60) on the CVE USS Suwanee during World War II. The mission of Air Group 60 was to escort troop ships prior to an invasion, to prepare the island for the landing of the troops, and to stay until the island was secure.

He participated in the invasions of Guam, Saipan, and Tinian. During the invasion of Morotai, LT Lindskog was shot down over the Japanese-held island of Halmahera. After several hours in the water, he was rescued by an Army Flying Boat. During the invasion of the Philippines, his carrier suffered the first two Japanese suicide bombers in the war. The USS Suwanee was out of action and sent back to the States. LT Lindskog received the Distinguished Flying Cross and an Air Medal during his years of service.
