    Peter F. Intrieri was an Aerospace Research Scientist with NASA from 1953 (then NACA) until 1988 working at the Ames Research Center, Moffett Field, in Mountain View, California. He immigrated from Italy at the age of four and graduated with his degree in Mechanical and Aeronautical Engineering from the University of Pittsburgh in 1953. In his thirty-five years with NASA, Mr. Intrieri worked in the Hypersonic Free Flight Division where he and his colleagues helped design and build the Hyper-Velocity Free Flight Ballistic Range which was the premier, state of the art facility in the country at that time for aerodynamic testing and design of revolutionary aircraft and spacecraft. Mr. Intrieri's work included such well know projects as the X-15, the Mercury, Gemini and Apollo Spacecraft Command Module re-entry vehicles, the Space Shuttle and planetary probes such as the original Viking/Mars probe, the Pioneer/Venus probe and the Galileo/Jupiter probe. Mr Intrieri has authored or co-authored thirty-five published reports or formal papers on the subject of high-speed aerodynamics and aerodynamic testing in ballistic ranges.
