CITATION TO ACCOMPANY THE AWARD OF
THE DISTINGUISHED FLYING CROSS TO PHILLIP H. NOLDEN
First Lieutenant Phillip H. Nolden distinguished himself by extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flight as an 0-2B Pilot near Phu Cat, Republic of Vietnam, on 4- August 1971. On that date, Lieutenant Nolden received a request for the playing of a tape to possibly obtain a reaction from known troops in the area. Lieutenant Nolden's courageous actions over a one hour period resulted in intense hostile fire enabling nearby fighters to pinpoint troop locations. The professional competence, aerial skill and devotion to duty displayed by Lieutenant Nolden reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Air Force.
