    Lieutenant Colonel Bingham contributed to the advancement of air power as a pilot, staff officer, doctrine analyst, and author.

    Graduated from the USAF Academy in 1966. Following pilot training at Reese AFB, TX flew EC-47s in Vietnam with the 360th and 361st TEWS from December 1967 to December 1968. Trained in the F-100 at Luke AFB, AZ and then flew F-100s with the 31st TFW's 308th TFS at Tuy Hoa AB, RVN from October 1969 to September 1970. Flew F-100 from RVN to CONUS and then reported to the 48thTFW's 494th TFS at RAF Lakenheath, UK flying F-100s from October 1970 to June 1972 during which flew two F-100s back to CONUS and checked out in F-4Cs at Luke AFB, AZ. Served as air operations officer managing fighter and tanker operations in the MACV and then USSAG TACC "Blue Chip" from August 1972 to August 1973, including duty in Area Control in the embassy in Phnom Penh, Cambodia. Flew A-7Ds with 354th TFW's 356th TFS and 353rd TFS at Myrtle Beach AFB, SC from September 1973 to August 1977 and flew AT-38's at Holloman AFB, NM with 479th TFTW's 434th and 435th TFTS from August 1977 to September 1980. Served on Air Staff in Pentagon from September 1980 to August 1984 followed by duty at Air University's Airpower Research Institute from August 1984 until retirement on 1 September 1992 researching and writing about air power. In retirement while working for Northrop Grumman Corporation on the Joint Surveillance Target Attack Radar System (Joint STARS) program in Melbourne, FL continued writing about air power. Articles on air interdiction, ground surveillance, targeting, air bases, short take-off and vertical landing (STOVL) technology, the operational level of war, and the integration of air and land power have been published in many professional military journals including Joint Force Quarterly, Air University Review, AirPower Journal, Parameters, Marine Corps Gazette, Naval Institute's Proceedings, ISR Journal, Armed Forces Journal International, and Strategic Review.

    Command pilot with 3,034 hours of flying time, including 954 hours of combat, and parachutist badge

    Military awards and decorations include: Distinguished Flying Cross with one Oak Leaf Cluster, Meritorious Service Medal with two Oak Leaf Clusters, Air Medal with sixteen Oak Leaf Clusters, Joint Service Commendation Medal, Air Force Commendation Medal, Air Force Achievement Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with eight service stars, Combat Readiness Medal with one Oak Leaf Cluster, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal.

    Education: Bachelor of Science with major in Military History from USAF Academy. Master of Arts in Military History from the University of Alabama

    Member of the Order of Daedalians, Super Sabre Society, Association of Graduates USAF Academy, Air Force Association, and Society of Military History
