Ralph Hilbert, BSME Villanova University, MSME Polytechnic University, New York State Professional Engineer. Worked at Grumman Aerospace for 35 years (1959-1994) in the Corporate Instrumentation section of the Flight Test Department. Promoted to Instrumentation Project Engineer on the successful development program of the EA-6B Prowler aircraft. Promoted to Manager of the Flight Data Section which was responsible for the test instrumentation on all Grumman programs, including the F14 Tomcat, A-6 Intruder, EA-6B Prowler and E2C Hawkeye as well as the Orbiting Astronomical Observatory (OAO) and the Lunar Module (LM) spacecraft. Responsibilities included the acquisition of valid data from all flight test articles and its transmission via telemetry and microwave links to the ground station where it allowed engineers to monitor the test programs in real time. Telemetry tracking stations at Terry Hill in Manorville, NY and Hither Hills in Montauk, NY were designed, built and utilized for this critical data transmission. In addition to the Long Island operation, the section was responsible for supporting the Instrumentation activities at numerous test sites worldwide. Ralph Hilbert was also an active member of the Society of Flight Test Engineers (SFTE) and was responsible for organizing their successful vendor exhibit at the 1992 Long Island Symposium.
