Rex Burden was a P-51 Mustang pilot with the 356th Fighter Group. He flew 56 missions, mostly as an escort to bombers of the 8th Air Force. He received 16 Air Medals and the Distinguished Flying Cross.
His last mission of World War II was as escort to a B-17 Flying Fortress bomber that dropped surrender bulletins.
He was a member of the Distinguished Flying Cross Society.
