CDR H. Dennis, Jr. was a Naval Aviator in WWII flying dive bomber missions over Japan from the deck of the second USS Yorktown. He flew the only airplane allowed to be in the vicinity of the surrender ceremony on the USS Missouri and carried a photographer who took newsreel pictures of the surrender ceremony which were flown back to the States for viewing in movie theaters. In a 28 year career he served on the USS Franklin D. Roosevelt as a pilot first and later as Flight Deck Officer. Later he served on the SACLANT Staff and on the staff of Commander U.S. Naval Forces, Europe. He retired in 1970 as the Executive Officer of the U.S. Naval Air Station, Memphis.
