Dick Myers had a passion for flying since his youth. He joined the US Army Air Corps in 1944 hoping to serve his country in WW II, but the War ended before his training began. He joined his family house painting business while continuing in his spare-time the long process of achieving his dream to fly. He began the process at the Lancaster Airport in Lititz, PA. He acquired his Private Pilot certificate on the Piper J-3 Cub in 1945. He then became a certificated Flight Instructor in 1947 offering flight lessons on evenings and weekends while continuing his training towards a Commercial Pilot license. He received his Instrument Rating in 1948. In 1964 he was finally able to quit the family painting business and joined Armstrong World Industries based in Lancaster, PA flying corporate personnel and clients nationally and internationally in several types of aircraft, including the Convair CV-580 Turboprop and the North American Sabreliner. Early in his career with Armstrong he received his Airline Transport Pilot certificate and additional certification as an aircraft maintenance engineer. Dick retired from Armstrong in 1989 and worked for several more years with Glatfelter Paper flying a Cessna Citation Model 500. During his professional career his also became a glider pilot instructor and tutored his wife, Penny, to her Private pilot license.

In 2003, Dick was awarded the The Wright Brothers "Master Pilot" Award for pilots who have demonstrated professionalism, skill, and aviation expertise by maintaining safe operations for 50 or more years. He retired from solo flying in 2006 at the age of 80 with over 14,000 hours logged. His goal is to return to the pilot’s seat on his 90th birthday.
