Citation to accompany the award of the Distinguished Flying Cross. Major Richard G. Davis distinguished himself by extraordinary achievement while participating In aerial flight as an EB-66 Aircraft Commander over Southeast Asia on 20 July 1971. On that, date, while flying an unarmed electronic countermeasures aircraft, he was tasked to provide vital support for an important heavy bomber strike mission. Despite the threat of imminent engagement by hostile surface-to-air missile systems, Major Davis remained on station to lend maximum support until all bomber aircraft had safely egressed the target area. The professional competence, aerial skill, and devotion to duty displayed by Major Davis reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Air Force.
