    Enlisted in Amarillo, TX, during World War II. Served as Bombardier on Navy Privateer Bomber of colorful “Reluctant Dragon Squadron” and B-24 Liberator “So Sorry.” Saw duty in Solomon Islands, New Guinea, invasion of Leyte in Phillipines, Iwo Jima, Guam, Peleliu, Saipan, Tinian, Munda, Green Island, Los Negros in Admiralties, Wadke, Biak, and Morotai. Served as bombardier and gunner in Navy’s “Bulldog Squadron,” an unescorted Liberator search-plane unit, for which he was awarded the Air Medal. Also received Gold Star in lieu of second Air Medal.

    Dick was interested in our Confederate Air Force Museum in Midland, TX, until his death August 22, 1994. He loved those old “War Birds.”
