    Wall of Honor Level:
    Air and Space Friend

    Honored by:
    Ms. Nanette L. Davis

Our husband and father, Richard L. Davis, of West Chester, Pennsylvania, is a man of great integrity and honor who spent his career helping us reach for the Moon and beyond. Trained as an aeronautical engineer, Dick Davis spent three years in the U.S. Air Force, working on liquid rocket engine development. He then moved to Thiokol Corporation, where he spent his career in many aspects of propulsion and solid rocket fuel motors, and business management leadership. Early on, Dick Davis led the team supplying the rocket motors that first soft-landed spacecraft on the Moon. Later, he was instrumental in leading the redesign of the Space Shuttle's rocket motors and development of the composite nozzle assembly for the Advanced Shuttle Rocket Motor. Dick Davis is a recipient of NASA's Distinguished Service Award, its highest civilian award for leadership in returning the Space Shuttle to flight status after the Challenger accident, and the Silver Snoopy Award, Astronauts' highest award for support of Manned Space flight.
