Honored by:
Carolyn Zimmerman
Robert "Skip" Zimmerman had a life-long passion for flight. Ever since he was a young boy all he ever wanted to be was a pilot and a designer of planes. He turned his dream into a prolific thirty year career at Northrop Corporation. He worked on such projects as the Snark surface to air missile system, the F-5, the F-18, and the F-20. He was lead engineer for both the M2 and the HL10 for Northrop's Wingless Lifting Body Program. Robert was so convinced that his innovative idea as to how the HL10 should attach to the B-52 wing that, on his own, he built a wooden model of it in his garage. Years later when the M2-F3 was accepted into the Smithsonian Institute and Mr. Zimmerman helped with its installation.
