Robert Heise, better known as Buddy, grew up fishing the Chesapeake and farming along its shores. Hard work and determination brought him to the Glenn L. Martin Co., now Lockheed Martin, where he worked on the Mariner project as well as a precursor of the Gemini project, and was sent briefly to San Diego to work with the Navy on location. He and his wife,
Dorothy, raised three daughters on their farm in northern Maryland,leaving his grandchildren a love of the land and the knowledge that it is possible to reach for the stars.
