    Wall of Honor Level:
    Air and Space Friend

    Honored by:

During my 36 years at McDonnell Aircraft Co., I was the radiating (HF, UHF Radio, Telemetry, C and S Band Tracking Beacons) Systems Engineer on the Project Mercury Space Capsule Program. It was a wonderful experience to be one of the Pioneers on the NASA First Free Man in Space Program. The lessons learned served me well throughout my career.

Followed that with the Gemini Program until 1962 when I transferred to the McDonnell F-4 Phantom II Program as the responsible Systems Engineer for putting the HF Radio system into the RF-4C. This was the first HF Radio installation in any tactical, supersonic aircraft. Continued on the F-4 Program until retirement in 1991. At that time I Avionics Systems Manager for all Avionics Systems in all versions of the F/RF-4 aircraft.

    DEFINITIONS:
HF = Long Range, High Frequency Radio Band.
UHF = Line of Sight Range, Ultra High Frequency Radio Band.
C Band Beacon = one of the two transmitters that provided a signal for NASA Ground Stations to use in finding and tracking the Capsule.
S Band Beacon = The other tracking transmitter.
