    Robert Philbrook Greene was born in Laconia New Hampshire on 12 July 1936. His earliest memories were flying with his Father (Robert C. Greene) in a small light plane. While at the University of New Hampshire he participated in the ROTC Flight program and earned his private pilot's license. In August 1959, after entering active duty as an Infantry Officer he attended rotary-winged flight school at Fort Wolters, Texas and Fort Rucker, Alabama. He graduated in June 1960 and had various assignments in the continental U.S. and Germany before Vietnam. From 1966 to 1970 he served two tours in Vietnam and a tour as a flight instructor at Ft. Rucker, AL. Between tours in Vietnam then Major Greene completed the Army's fixed-wing transition course. After tours with the Pennsylvania National Guard, ROTC at the University of Hawaii, and the Office of the Chief of the Army Reserve, LTC Greene retired in 1980 with twenty-two years of service in the regular Army. His service awards and qualifications are: The Parachutist Badge, Ranger Tab, and Master Aviator's Badge (with 4,000 hours of flight time and instrument tickets in both rotary and fixed wing). He holds the Silver Star with OLC, the Legion of Merit, Distinguished Flying Cross with two OLC, the Bronze Star with two OLC, the Air Medal with forty OLC and "V" Device, the Meritorious Service Medal with OLC, the Army Commendation Medal with OLC, The General Staff Identification Badge, The National Defense Service Medal, The Vietnam Service Medal with one silver service star and two bronze service stars, four overseas service bars, and the Republic of Vietnam Gallantry Cross with Palm Citation.
