Enlisted in the U.S. Army to learn to fly in 1966. Flew in Vietnam 1967-1968. Army flight instructor in UH-1 helicopters until 1970, during which time he obtained his airplane rating.
From 1970 to the present he has flown helicopters in agricultural work including field crops, forestry and fire fighting. During this time he also was rated as CFI, airframe and powerplant mechanic and glider pilot.
