Born on June 6, 1980 in Shanghai, China, Yi is married to Joe Yook Eng, also listed on the Museum?€™s Wall of Honor. They live in Southern California. She has two children from previous marriage: a son named Jun Tin and a daughter named Pei-Yau Tin.

With knowledge acquired from her husband, Yi has developed an interest in and become a supporter for the American space program.
