    Mr. Edward L. Abelew

Prior to corporate retirement, Mr. Fishbein held key executive positions with government and industry involved in the development of Space and Aeronautical Communication and Navigation Technology. After moving into the Washington DC Area and consulting for several years, he began contributing his experience to the Smithsonian's National Air and Space Museum.
Working in that institution as a Museum Specialist, and later as the Chairman of the Aerospace and Technology Committee of the National Air and Space Museum, Mr. Fishbein coined the concept of "Flight Management Systems". As that terminology increasingly became known within the industry, he authored a book appropriately titled Flight Management Systems.
This unique and innovative work was received as a "Technical guide to the burgeoning and increasingly complex devices that make it possible to operate aircraft ..." - Donald S. Lopez former Deputy Director National Air and Space Museum, as well as a "Useful and valuable document for not only the engineer but also for the researcher, student, and lay reader." - William T. Hardaker, aviation consultant and pilot.
Flight Management Systems - "describes the evolution of automated systems, their integration, and the major role of the pilot in this environment. ... discussing why the flight instrument panel is configured the way it is and how ground and space-based components of the system have influenced the design of airplane components." - Press Release Greenwood Publishing Group, Inc.

This publication provides synopses and bibliography of current articles, published in a variety of media focused to the aerospace technology community. The Aerospace Technology Committee, which Sam Fishbein chairs, exists to explore and support aspects of aerospace science and technology - past , present and future - of interest to the staff and other colleagues of the National Air and Space Museum (NASM). The Aerogram, a report published monthly, is a reflection of this philosophy.
