    Ms. Wendy Keegan

Sean Arthur Munson is honored for his many achievements and clear direction as he begins his college years, pursuing his aerospace engineering goals of a lifetime.
Sean is a student at Franklin W. Olin College of Engineering, the first new engineering college in the United States in over 40 years, located in Needham, Massachusetts. Along with 29 Olin classmates, Sean will spend the 2001-2002 academic year developing the school's curriculum and its framework for student government. Sean and the rest of the "Olin partners" will form the core of the first freshman class in fall 2002. He was awarded a full four-year scholarship to Olin.
Sean is a 2001 graduate of High Tech High School in Little Silver, New Jersey. He demonstrated strong leadership and communications skills as a class council officer and vice president of the school's chapter of the National Honor Society. He learned about Olin College while participating in a high school robotics team competition in Florida.
As a self-taught web designer, Sean began by developing his own web site showing proposed space travel vehicles and high speed mass transit systems, which he designed on a 3-D CAD system. Through his web site, his knowledge and experience attracted several business firms, for whom he developed and maintained professional web sites. Sean is self-directed, learning new tools and software very quickly and applying the best implementation for each situation. As a volunteer, he set up the international server and maintained the computer network at the Count Basie Learning Center in Red Bank, New Jersey. His interests in political issues and computer technology motivated him to co-create a web site for discussion of current events.
Sean is an Eagle Scout and chief of the Monmouth County, New Jersey lodge of the Order of the Arrow, the Scout honor society. He always welcomes the opportunity to canoe, hike or backpack. He has spent several years as a youth leader in his church. Sean has extensively researched the history of military aircraft, enjoys a challenging game of chess and is an avid reader. He has a large model train collection, from which he designed a model railroad layout that he entered in a Florida competition.
Sean's focus on engineering started very early. His original design of a battleship, one that could transport, launch, and service submarines, was politely rejected by the Office of Naval Research, when Sean was only in kindergarten. Ironically, the latest battleships have incorporated each of Sean's recommendations, although that is closely guarded information.
