    Sam was born in January of 1934 in Easton, Pa., to Salvatore and Julia Pennise, who emigrated from Italy. As a child he was an altar boy for his church, graduated from Easton High School, and received his B.S. degree in electrical engineering from Lafayette College. He moved to California in 1956 with his wife and young son and went on to receive his master's degree from West Coast University. Sam also spent six years in the military during the Cold War, retiring with the rank of Captain in the US Army Ordnance Corps.
    Sam had a full and rewarding career. During his 43 years at ROCKETDYNE, spanning from the mid 1950’s through to 1999, Sam made countless contributions to fighting the COLD WAR and the AEROSPACE Industry, working on many different Programs, Including but not limited to, ATLAS, MINUTE MAN, X33, F1, H1, J2, RS-68, B1-BOMBER, REDSTONE, THOR, IVTM, NAVAHO, MERCURY, GEMINI, SATURN, APOLLO, SSME, CLINCH RIVER FBNRP, DELTA, and the International Space Station. A true period in history that will never be equaled.
    His hobbies and interests ranged from working on cars, skiing, traveling, camping, backpacking in Yosemite National Park, and hunting. Sam was president of his bowling league and ski club, a member of the NRA, the Camarillo Computer Club, and the Rocketdyne Retirees' Club.
    Most of all, he enjoyed spending time with his family. Sam was a kind and intelligent man who exemplified hard work and perseverance throughout his life. He will be remembered as a loving husband, father, and grandfather, as well as a compassionate friend.
