My father has had a lifetime interest in aviation. Growing up in the 1930’s and 1940’s he built models and read “Air Trails” magazines. After graduating from Lehigh University, he was drafted into the U.S. Army and sent to Korea. He was assigned as a crew-chief on Cessna L-19 Birddogs in the Aviation Section, Hdqtrs Co, 2nd Inf Div, between Sep ’51 and Jul ’52. He flew as an observer on numerous missions during Heartbreak Ridge and other battles. After the Korean War he worked for TRW, Inc. engineering production methods for jet engine parts, including the Pratt and Whitney JT-8D and the Allison T-56.
