Honored by:
Sergeant (Sgt.) Butler was called into service in 1943 in the infantry; later he transferred into the Army Air Corps. He took gunnery training in Texas and joined a crew on a B-24 Liberator heavy bomber with the 15th Air Force in Italy in 1944. He flew 35 combat missions.
Sgt. Butler was awarded the Air Medal with clusters.
