    Sid was a chemist trained at the University of Massachusetts. He was born in Peabody, Massachusetts and passed away in Arlington, Virginia in 2009. During World War II he was stationed in the United Kingdom serving in the Army Air Force 8th AF, 95th Bomber Group, 457th Service Group, 334th Division in support of US bombers flying missions over Europe. After the War he joined the US Food and Drug Administration in Washington, DC where he eventually rose to a senior executive position before retirement. Active during retirement, he was the editor of the 14th edition of the widely used reference book, OFFICIAL METHODS OF ANALYSIS OF THE ASSOCIATION OF OFFICIAL ANALYTICAL CHEMISTS.
