Honored by:
Ms. Carol Bradshaw Akin
Dr. Clayton L. Akin served in World War II as a Radio Operator in a B-29, flying over 30 bombing mission to Japan. He was a member of the 20th Air Force in the (then) Army Air Corps, and was stationed in Saipan Island in the Pacific Theater. He received the Distinguished Flying Cross and Air Medal with two clusters.
He always marveled at the B-29 design, and what such a large plane could be capable of. He appreciated the many facets of the B-29 through his life, -- finally visiting the display of the last one now flying at Teeterborough Airport in New Jersey in 1998, and re-entering it with his family, sitting once again in is his spot , at age 72.
