    Enlisted May 1, 1941. Was a radio operator with the 19th Bomb Group, Hq Squadron sent to the Philippines, arriving at Clark AFB October 27, 1941 as part of advanced detail sent to establish Del Monte Air Field on Mindanao. Captured by Japanese forces May 10, 1942 and spend 3-1/2 years as a prisoner of war.

    Survived bailout in Alaska in 1951. Released from military August 1953 on medical retirement caused by parasite resulting from working in rice paddies on Mindanao, Philippine Islands.

    Received Bronze Star, Presidential Unit Citation with 2 stars, Philippine Defense Medal.

    Built model aircraft. Soloed as a pilot at age 17 and was just short of private license. In later years received private pilot's license after the war.
