    8th Air Force, 709th Squadron, 447th Bomb Group. Based at Rattlesden, England
    On April 27th, 1944 while on a bombing mission over France (VI sites), he was forced to bail out. Normally in the waist gun position, he was in the nose when they were hit. He evaded capture, connected with the French Underground in Paris and escaped by taking trains to the Spanish border and walking over the Pyrenees Mountains into Spain. Shot down April 27, 1944 in Spain May 27, back to England June 15, 1944.
