Staff Sergeant Ramirez served as radio operator and mechanic with the 14th Air Force, 23rd Fighter Control Squadron for 2½ years in China. The squadron flew P-40 aircraft. Some of the pilots and ground crew members had been with the Flying Tigers when they disbanded in 1942. The 23rd Fighter Group was at airfields in Kunming, Kweilin and Chickang. June 1942-Nov 11, 1945.
