Army Air Corps 1-1-43 at Camp Lee, VA; basics at Miami Beach, FL; stationed Semour Johnson Field in Goldsboro, NC in '43 & became Crew Chief mechanic on B-17's, repairing and maintaining the aircraft. He helped in a big way to keep the planes flying during WWII. He was Specialty AP & Eng Mech 747; stationed most of the time at Clovis Air Force Base, NM; 245th AAF Base Unit; went to Boeing Aircraft in Seattle, WA; worked on B-29's when they came out; sent to McCook, NB in '45 & was attached to the "Killer Canes" B-24 group to organize & go overseas. While he was there, the U.S. dropped the A-Bomb which ended the war. Discharged 2-8-46; worked at Piper Aircraft in Lock Haven, PA awhile. Service Serial #: 33-450-688. Decorations and citations: American Theater Ribbon, Good Conduct Medal, WWII Victory Medal.
