Matthew, born on January 31st, 1922, in the little town of Nemacolin in Greene County, Pennsylvania. He enlisted in the Army Air Corps on his 18th birthday. January 31st, 1940. He served two years with the Halverson Bomber Squadron in the South Pacific Theatre during World War II. In which, on or about July 9th, 1942 Matthew and his crew, flying a B-24 over the Philippine Islands during a mission made contact with headquarters and soon disappeared over the ocean. He is a hero and role model serving America’s history through times of trouble and despair. Matthew will forever be in our hearts and memories of those who remember him as a hard working young man that paid the ultimate price. His life.
