Tail gunner on a B-17 bomber, World War II. Shot down over Germany. Prisoner of war in Stalag Luft IV (4). On February 6, 1945, was put on a forced march with very little food and water, sleeping in barns or beside the road. Died of malnutrition and eating rotten potatoes April 13, 1945.
