    Stanley Forward Nelson served in the USAF during the Cold War as a Strategic Air Command B-36D gunner. Later he served as a pilot in Vietnam winning the Distinguished Flying Cross.

    He served with the National Aeronautics and Space Administration as Chief, Aircraft Operations Office, Kennedy Space Center, later joining the National Aeronautic Association. He served as Chairman of the Contest and Records Board.
