Stephen was in the Air Force from October 1963 through 1969. Previously, he had joined Civil Air Patrol as a Cadet in 1957 and became a Senior Cadet in 1960. As of 1962 he was named Squadron Leader. His daughter, Monica LaFlamme, just retired from the Air Force after 21 years, as a Major. Her husband, Scott, retired after 22 years as a Senior Master Sgt.

Although Steve was never assigned Overseas, he has always had an "Air Force" state of mind and is very proud that his daughter followed in his footsteps. Monnie, in fact, was named top Recruiter in the US at one point in her career.
