    Patricia Alverson

As a child, Mr. Alverson had a keen interest in aviation including building and flying gas-powered model aircraft. After his first flight on an Eastern Airlines Boeing 727 Whisperjet to the Bahamas at the age of nine, he fell in love with air travel. He focused his college education on aviation, obtaining a B.S. in Aeronautics from Dowling College in Oakdale, New York.

While at Dowling, he was hired by Aviation Consulting Incorporated in Manhasset, New York to assist with development of a database of Eastern Airlines' maintenance staff training records. He also began working at PRC Speas in New Hyde Park, New York assisting on a variety of aviation consulting tasks supporting the airline and airport industry. Upon graduation from Dowling, he received a full-time aviation consultant position at PRC Speas. In the fall of 1981, he participated in an Airport Noise Control and Land Use Compatibility Study at Santa Barbara Municipal Airport in California, which piqued his interest in aircraft noise and compatible land use planning. During his time at PRC Speas in Southern California, which later became P&D Aviation, he focused his career on measuring and modeling aircraft noise at public airports and military air stations throughout the world.

In 1985, Steve was hired by the City and County of Denver to serve as Denver-Stapleton International Airport's first airport noise officer. While there he created one of the most comprehensive airport noise programs in the United States including the first airport to daily correlate aircraft noise events with radar data. He was also intimately involved in the planning of the new Denver International Airport. Through his progress on minimizing aircraft noise impacts at Stapleton and participation in town hall-meetings with Mayor Federico Pena, he helped garner community support for the construction of the new Airport.

In 1990, Mr. Alverson was hired by the Boston-based transportation noise consulting firm of Harris Miller Miller & Hanson Inc. (HMMH) to develop and manage a west-coast practice. In 1991, he opened HMMH's first west-coast office in Sacramento, California providing aviation noise consulting services to numerous airports in the western United States. In 2004, he was tapped by Environmental Science Associates (ESA) to serve as Director of its Central Valley Region. In 2006, Mr. Alverson became ESA's National Aviation Practice Leader where he grew the practice to provide a broad range of aviation consulting services to airports, airlines, and air cargo operators. After retiring from ESA in 2020, he served as an independent noise consultant until June 2022.

Over his more than 40-year aviation career, Mr. Alverson served as an aviation noise expert quantifying aircraft noise exposure, identifying noise abatement and noise mitigation measures, developing compatible land use planning strategies, and facilitating hundreds of public meetings to foster a greater understanding of aircraft operations and community noise concerns amongst residents, elected officials, airlines, aircraft operators, pilots, and air traffic controllers. Ultimately, Mr. Alverson's work allowed airports, airlines, and air cargo operators to grow operations while minimizing aircraft noise impacts on people.
