Stuart Matthews is president and chief executive officer of Flight Safety Foundation (FSF). Matthews has more than 50 years of experience in the aviation industry, including 15 years in the British aircraft-manufacturing industry as an advanced project design engineer and in other positions, and seven years with British Caledonian Airways, where he was responsible for corporate and fleet planning. Matthews established Fokker Aircraft U.S.A. in 1974 and served as president of the company for 20 years. He was elected FSF chairman in 1989 and, upon his retirement from Fokker in 1994, was appointed FSF president and CEO. Matthews is a chartered engineer, a fellow of the Royal Aeronautical Society and a pilot who served as a commissioned officer in the Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve.
