    Captain Thomas Patrick Austin (also known as Pat or T.P.) was born in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma on March 8, 1941 to D.E. and Josephine Austin.

    He was a United Airlines commercial pilot from July 12,1965 to March 8, 2001. During his career he flew the Douglas DC-6, Viscount, Boeing 737, Boeing 727, DC-8, DC 10, Boeing 757, Boeing 767 and Boeing 777. He held type ratings and flew as pilot in command on the B-737, DC-8, B-757, B-767 and B-777.
    He served in the United Air Line Pilots Association as as the secretary treasurer and 1st officer representative in 1967 through 1968 for Council 32 in Detroit, Michigan, and as the master executive council vice chairman 1980-1985. He served on negotiating committees in 1970-72, 1976-77, 1978-79, and 1986-91. He chaired the last two negotiating committees.
    He served as LCA on the B-737 in 1984 through 1986 and on the B-777 in 1995 through 2001.
    He flew United's first revenue flight on the B-777 from London, England to Washington DC (Dulles International Airport) on June 7, 1995. He was presented the Dulles Flight Operations Division Captain of the Year award in 1998, and received the Brodigan-Forsythe Award in 2001 from the pilots of Council 11.
