Tom was a pilot with 50 years experience all over the world. He reengined 13 PBYs so one person could fly them. One PBY he donated to the San Diego Air and Space Museum where it is displayed in the courtyard.
He was active in the Line Islands Experiment by the National Center for Atmospheric Research to obtain atmospheric data in conjunction with the ATS-1 satellite. He flew many trips to deliver the scientists, their supplies, and mail.
