My father asked me this question just the other day, "What inspired you to get involved with aviation?" I told him, well that's easy, you did! I remember the days when he took us kids to Miami International Airport to watch the airplanes take-off and land. The roaring sound from the engines excited me and I was fascinated how such a large and heavy metal object could be lifted right up to the sky with such ease and grace.

My father began his aviation career when he joined the United States Air Force in 1963, where he served honorably in the Vietnam War. In 1968 he was hired on by National Airlines as a jet engine mechanic based at the Miami (MIA) hub on 36th street.

A few years later, the Sunburst shed a tear and Pan American World Airways known as the world's most experienced and sophisticated airline took over. Luckily my father's seniority was high enough to continue his aviation career with Pan Am. But sadly and with disbelief, this pioneer airline ship sunk.

Even though there were many twists, turns, ups, and downs working for the airlines he continued to pursue his passion and got a job with the United States Air Force as an air reserve technician at Homestead Air Force Base, FL. Shortly after Hurricane Andrew struck Homestead Air Force Base in 1992, my father was transferred to Patrick Air Force Base in Cocoa Beach, FL.

My father's aviation career draws to a close where it all began. On May 13, 2004, after 41 rollercoaster aviation years he retires from working on airplanes, but not from the enjoyment of airplanes. Congratulations Dad! We are proud of you!
