John B. (Jack) Evans joined the United States Army Air Force on May 27, 1942. T/Sgt. Jack Evans was an Air Operations Specialist and Chief Aircraft Dispatcher at Lincoln Army Air Field in Nebraska. He cleared and checked all outgoing and incoming aircraft. In addition, Jack helped pilots chart and plan their courses of flight. Among the decorations and citations Jack received were the American Theater Campaign Medal, the Victory Medal, and the Good Conduct Medal.
After Jack's discharge from the Army Air Force on December 17, 1945, he joined American Airlines at Harbor Field in Baltimore, Maryland, where his work in ground support prepared him for a 30-year career in the airline business. When Baltimore's Friendship Airport was completed, Jack moved with American Airlines to its new home. His work with American included managing Passenger and Freight Operations and the Airport SkyCap Service. Jack was on board the first non-stop passenger jet flight from Baltimore to Los Angeles with national and local dignitaries as American Airlines expanded its operations.
In 1973, Friendship Airport became Baltimore-Washington International Airport, and Jack was a consultant during the change, frequently traveling to American's headquarters in Dallas, Texas.
Jack Evans died on September 5, 1975, after serving his country and the airline industry for many years. He passed on his love of and respect for aviation to his wife, Catherine, and their four daughters, Jane, Nancy, Patricia, and Mary.
