    Vice Adm. Herbert A. Browne, USN (Ret.), served 36 years in the U.S. Navy. Naval aviator and command and control (C2) expert with more than 5,000 hours as an aircraft navigation, communications and weapons control systems operator.
    Born in McKinney, Texas, enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1964. Assignments and duties included deputy commander in chief/chief of staff, U.S. Space Command, and vice commander in chief, North American Aerospace Defense Command; commander, U.S. Third Fleet; deputy commander in chief and chief of staff, U.S. Pacific Fleet; commander, Carrier Group One; commander, Naval Space Command; director, C2 Systems Division, Office of the CNO; commanding officer, USS John F. Kennedy (CV 67); commanding officer, USS Niagara Falls (AFS 3); chief of staff for operations and plans, Carrier Group Two; commanding officer, Attack Squadron 42; air officer-air boss, USS Independence (CV 62); commanding officer, Attack Squadron 65; among others.
    Awarded the Defense Distinguished Service Medal, the Distinguished Service Medal, the Legion of Merit (three Gold Stars), the Meritorious Service Medal (two Gold Stars), the Air Medal (numeral 5 and Combat V), the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (Combat V and two Gold Stars) and the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal, among others. Received the National Reconnaissance Office Medal of Distinguished Service and the National Imagery and Mapping Agency Medallion for Excellence.
    Retired president and chief executive officer of AFCEA International.
