    Air and Space Friend

    Honored by:
    Ms. Jill Diane McBride

My Grandfather’s interest in aeronautics started with model airplanes while helping a local Pathfinder kid’s club in Southern California. According to my uncle, the most unique piece he made was a static DC-9 carved from solid fir which had electric motors to turn the props. Later, Grandpa Bill took lessons but had difficulty passing the written test due to his limited formal education. Once he passed the written test, due to advanced age, he was unable to pass the physical test. he had a ½ interest in several planes. He also built and ultralight with a two cylinder VW engine.
