    Walter is the son of Dewey Cable who founded Cable Airport (CCB) in Upland, California, the world's largest family owned public-use airport.

    Walter flew a Cessna T-210 G Centurion to a world altitude record of 42,344 feet for Class C1-c Group I on May 13, 1967. This record stood as of September 10, 2003.
