    Authority: By direction of the President of the United States under the provisions of"" the Act of Congress approved.2 July 1926.
    Reason: For heroism while participating in aerial flight evidenced by voluntary action above and beyond the call of duty in the Republic -of Vietnam on 30 December 1970. Warrant Officer Dietz distinguished himself while serving S3 pilot of a UH-1H helicopter during a medical evacuation mi .sic.-, near Fire Base Arsenal, Republic of Vietnam. While on the Landing zone, Warrant Officer Dietz’s aircraft was hit several times by enemy mortars. Although the aircraft was badly damaged. Warrant Officer Dietz, continued the mission successfully evacuating the wounded soldier and resupplying the ground element. His actions were instrumental in saving the life of the wounded a soldier. Warrant Officer Dietz’s personal bravery and devotion to duty were in keeping with the highest traditions of the military service and reflect great credit upon himself, his unit, and the United States Army.
