    Lt. Col. Wendell B. Stockdale

    Col. Stockdale accepted a regular commission in the USAF upon graduating from the U.S. Naval Academy in 1952. He entered pilot training at Bartow Fl. in 1954 and transitioned to the F-86 at Nellis AFB in 1955.

    From there, he was assigned to the 45th Fighter Day Squadron at Sidi Slimane, French Morocco. In 1956 he crash-landed in England and was grounded for a year due to injuries. Upon the completion of his tour in Morocco, he was assigned to the Directorate of Flight and All Weather Testing at Wright Patterson AFB, Ohio.

    In 1961 he earned his MBA at the University of Chicago, being assigned from there to the Cost Analysis Division of the Air Research and Development Command at Andrews AFB, Md. For his cost analysis of the Skybolt air to ground missile he was awarded the Air Force Commendation Medal. He resigned from active duty in 1963 and retired from the Reserves in 1975.
