Joined USAAF in December, 1942. Completed flight school in 1944 and commissioned at age 20. Trained on B-17’s. Crew was en route to Europe when transfers to Europe stopped. Trained on B-29’s and was leaving to be part of B-29 wing on Okinawa when atom bomb dropped. When he died, he asked that a B-17 and his serial number be on his tombstone. He was very proud of his pilot wings.
