    Honored by:

    William E. Hanna, Jr. joined the Army Air Corps in March, 1942. He served in the Pacific Theater as a Navigator during World War II and retired after 30 years in the Air Force Reserve as a Lt. Col.

    As a civilian, he was employed by the DOD in 1954 as Controller for the Aeronautical Chart & Information Center in St. Louis, Missouri. In 1961, he accepted a position with NASA as Executive officer for the Nuclear Rocket Program. Later, he was appointed Director, Programs and Resources, Office of Advanced Research and Technology at NASA Headquarters in Washington, DC.

    Mr. Hanna was elected Mayor for four terms (1974-1982) of the City of Rockville, and as Councilman for four terms (1982-1992) to the Montgomery County Council in Maryland. In 1999, he was appointed to the Board of Directors of the Maryland Science, Engineering and Technology Corporation by the Governor of Maryland. He holds A.B. and Masters Degrees.
