    Wall of Honor Level:
    Air and Space Leader

    Honored by:
    Harriette V. Lamar

Mr. Lamar was a member of the NASA Research and Technology Advisory Committee for Space Vehicles and the AGARD Flight Mechanics Panel. He was an Associated Fellow of the AIAA, a member of Sigma Xi/Research Society of America, and a registered professional engineer in the State of Ohio. Because Mr. Lamar was a staunch proponent of system simulation, the Large Amplitude Multimode Aerospace Research Simulator (LAMARS) was named in his honor.
After the Space Shuttle Enterprise successfully completed its Approach and Landing Tests at Dryden Flight Research Center in 1977, scientists from NASA presented William Lamar with a framed photograph of the Enterprise making its historic descent to earth. Acknowledging Mr. Lamar’s invaluable contribution to the knowledge base that was used to created the first space shuttle, Director of Flight Operations, George W.S. Abbey, had autographed the photograph with the inscription: “To Bill Lamar, whose efforts made all this happen . . . “ It is for this reason that many have called William Lamar the “father of the space vehicle.”
