Bill Layman is a pioneer in the design of spacecraft mechanical systems. In a four decade career at JPL, Bill led the developments of technical designs of Mariner, Viking, Voyager, Galileo, Mars Pathfinder and other missions. His influence is still felt today in his disciples who continue his legacy through missions such as the Curiosity Mars Rover.
