William joined the Piedmont Airlines family on February 28, 1955 as a station agent in Charleston, WV. Piedmont Airlines was just starting to expand, first into Parkersburg, WV, Columbus, OH, Charlottesville, VA and Washington, DC.

This part of his career lasted for almost 15 years. William was Chief Agent when Piedmont Airlines took another giant step by centralizing their Reservations processes in 1970. He was transferred to Winston-Salem, NC, in May 1970 as a Shift Manager in the new Center. The Center was temporarily housed in the old Fabric Shop on the second floor of the large Hanger across Liberty Street from the Airport proper. December 1970 saw him promoted to Manager - Reservations Facilities.

May 8, 1971 was the date Piedmont Airlines went into the full computer age with both Voice and Data Communications Networks. Piedmont Airlines leased space in the Continental Airlines Computer in Los Angeles, CA. Five years later, Piedmont Airlines made the move to the Eastern Airlines Computer in Miami, FL.

Piedmont Airlines purchased their first computerized Telephone Automatic Call Distributor in 1979. Piedmont Airlines Reservations Center soon numbered five: Winston-Salem, NC, Herndon, VA, Nashville, TN, Orlando, FL and Dayton, OH. A sixth Center was added in Utica, NY when Piedmont Airlines purchased Empire Airlines.

1981 found another change as Piedmont Airlines opened their own Computer Center in Winston-Salem and formed a Communications Department; William was transferred to the Madison Park Computer Center in 1983 and retained the Voice Communications for the Reservations Networks. William served in this position until he retired in 1994.
